1. Friendship -- In an increasingly complex world, Lions provides one of the most basic human needs - the need for friends and friendship.
Dues are voted on and determined by Lions Clubs International and the local clubs. Dues are of a modest amount and include an annual subscription to The Lion magazine.
Membership is open to men and women of legal majority and good reputation in the community and is by invitation only.
Before 1987, men and women had separate Lions and Lioness clubs. Today most clubs have integrated with the majority (Lions) although there still remain a few Lioness Clubs out there.
"Liberty, Intelligence, Our Nation's Safety" (LIONS) is the slogan.
The association's motto, "We Serve," precisely explains its mission.
